Stuart Hughes is a civil engineer and transportation professional. He attend University College London and graduated with an honours degree in Civil Engineering and went on to do his masters in Structural Engineering at Imperial College London. He also has a diploma in French Language and Civilisation from the Sorbonne in Paris and a post graduate certificate in Infrastructure in a Market Economy from the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. 
He worked as a development professional at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) for several years and was involved in many projects in the road sector in Guyana and Jamaica including the first performance-based road maintenance contracts implemented in Guyana. He also conceptualised and implemented a capacity building programme for Guyanese road construction companies in the early 2000s which led to the development of local road works contractors to the point that they were able to successfully bid and implement larger road construction contracts. 
After leaving the IDB he joined one of the leading UK consulting firms, Mott MacDonald where he worked on projects in Guyana, the Caribbean and Africa and was Mott MacDonald’s Transportation Business Development Director for the Caribbean region. 
Stuart returned to Guyana in 2014 and is currently the Director of Projects at SRKN'gineering a leading local consulting engineering firm where he has recently directed and successfully implemented the largest road construction supervision contract ever awarded to a Guyanese consulting engineering firm as the lead consultant.
