Dr. Benjamín Colucci, Distinguished Civil Engineer of the Institute of Civil Engineers in Puerto Rico, is the Director of the Transportation Technology Transfer Center (T2) and a full professor in the Civil Engineering and Surveying Department of the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez.
Dr. Colucci has been involved in training and professional development in the area of Road Safety and Transportation Engineering for over 35 years. For 22 years Dr. Colucci was a consultant of the Puerto Rico Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) and the Highway and Transportation Authority (HTA) on issues related to planning, design, inspection and management of road and highway projects, including the development and review of technical manuals, specifications and model plans for the Agency.
In terms of academic experience, Dr. Colucci has taught undergraduate courses such as Highway Location and curve design, highway engineering, structural design of pavements, asphalt mixtures, pavement management and road safety, among others.
He has presented the findings of several research projects in technical conferences in the United States, Central and South America, Caribbean, Spain, Portugal, France, United Kingdom, Amsterdam, Singapore, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, among others, and in technical committees of several international professional organizations, including the International Road Federation (IRF). He is currently Co-Chairman of the Traffic Enforcement Subcommittee. He has worked on research projects related to pavement evaluation, nondestructive testing, asphalt mixtures, highway safety, speed studies, motorcycle crashes and Tren Urbano. He has received awards for his scientific contribution, achievement and productivity in the civil engineering and transportation of institutions such as Chi Epsilon, Sigma Xi, UPRM, CIAPR, Purdue University and University of Puerto Rico.
